Protection Warrior Guide

This will be a guide on how to play a protection warrior.

I will be going over the different specs + glyphs, basic ‘rotation’ and warrior mechanics and of course itemising/gemming/enchanting.

  • Talent specs

Now there are a number of different specs you can go but I will go over the two most common ones. Note that certain talents and glyphs are of personal preferences.

15/3/53

This is the basic cookie cutter build. There are a few points you can swap here and there but this is the most textbox spec. This spec offers good threat generation through talents like impale + deep wounds, armored to the teeth and also imp revenge as well as good survivability.

5/15/51

This is known as the survivability or progression build. It moves away from threat generation talents and focuses purely on survivability. This spec combined with Glyph of Shield Wall and Glyph of Last Stand gives you two, 2 minute CD’s and offers the highest survivability possible.

  • Basic ‘Rotation’

Here we go, now for the fun part!

Now a prot warrior doesnt have a set ‘rotation’ like a DPS class except they go by keeping up certain buffs/debuffs and using what comes off CD.

For example:

Single Target –

For single target, you always open up with Shield Slam!

Now 2 things can happen. 1) Revenge will proc 2) Revenge did not proc

If (1) happens use revenge, if (2) happens use devastate.

NOTE: Shield Slam and Revenge produces the highest amount of threat so use them when they’re up.

After that get get your SA (sunder armor) stack to 5 through devastate ASAP! The quicker you get it to 5, the faster the mob dies!

DON’T LET SA x 5 FALL OFF! KEEP IT UP AT ALL TIMES!
